What we have actually tested.
Most accessibility statements describe an aspiration. This one describes measurements, including the places we currently fall short.
What we target
WCAG 2.1 Level AA. We do not claim formal certification or an independent audit, because neither has happened. What follows is what we have measured ourselves.
What has been checked
- Colour contrast — every text element on the homepage measured against its actual background at both desktop and mobile widths, with the layout in its final rendered state.
- Keyboard operation — every interactive control reachable and operable by keyboard. The mobile menu traps focus while open, closes on Escape, and returns focus where it came from.
- Hidden content stays hidden — the closed mobile menu is fully out of the tab order, not just moved off-screen.
- Structure — one h1 per page, headings in order, real lists for grouped content, and a skip link that moves focus to the main content.
- Reduced motion — all animation and transitions are disabled when your system asks for reduced motion.
- Without JavaScript — the page content renders and the FAQ opens and closes, because it uses native HTML rather than script.
- Zoom and reflow — no horizontal scrolling at mobile widths.
Known gaps
These are the things we know are not right yet, rather than a claim that nothing is:
- The decorative numerals beside each learning stage sit at about 3.2:1. They are hidden from screen readers and repeat information already given by the list order, but they do not meet AA as text.
- The site has not had an independent accessibility audit, and has not been tested with a full range of assistive technology on real devices.
- Two illustrative product screenshots are described in text for screen reader users, but a fuller description of what they show would be better.
The product itself
This statement covers the abbi.world website. Accessibility of the learning product — which a child uses directly, and where the bar is higher — is a separate piece of work, and we will publish a statement about it rather than let this one imply coverage it does not have.
Tell us when something does not work
If any part of this site is difficult or impossible for you to use, email hello@abbi.world with the page and what happened. It is treated as a defect, not feedback.
